| Holy, Holy, Holy Banner
Communion or Trinity Season This crazy quilt banner was made by sewing small pieces of material onto a single large piece of material. From an old green Trinity parament the words Holy, Holy, Holy and 4 small Greek crosses were cut out. They were used as the focal point of this banner. Around these green patches are also many other colors of the old paraments. Instead of each patch having a symbol, the design will be all over the front. The theme for this banner is communion. You will see the grape vine and grapes on the left side. Grapes signify the sacrament of Holy Communion. The heads of wheat on the right side symbolize the bread of life (Mark 14:22). The four Greek crosses are used in each corner of the banner. The seams are sewn with the same color of thread as the patch. Some of the seams are covered with embroidered flowers, referring to (Matthew 6:28-29). The grape vine on the banner is in reference to (John 15:1-5) where our Lord declares He is the true vine. The seams are also finished with shell ornaments, beads, red and black coral, fish (a symbol for a Christian), flowers, buttons made from mother of pearl, birds (Matthew 10:29-31) and butterflies (a symbol of the resurrection and eternal life). The leaves are all embroidered and silk ribbon embroidered and embellished with beads. The banner is finished with hand made bead fringe. This banner can be used during the Trinity season or for Communion. |
