This banner is made from Bethany's purple alter cloth.  The color Purple indicates mourning and expresses a penitential period.  The crowing cock is make of black felt suggesting to us the trial and condemnation of Christ and is used specifically in reference to Peter's denial of Jesus.  (Mark 14:72)  The banner is finished with fold fringe.
