North Salem: Embroidery and Beads - 145 years - 1850-1995

Bethany: Embroidery nd Beads - 1890 - 1989 - merged with North Salem.

Baptism: Embroidery and Pearl Drops - One of the earliest symbols of this event is a scallop shell with drops of water falling from it. Mark 1:9-11.

Crown and Cross: The symbol of the cross and crown stands for a reward to those who are faithful unto death.

Cross: Appliqué from old parament - The Fleur-de-Lis cross - Artistic symbol of the trefoil to suggest the Trinity.

Cross: Crocheted - My (Mary Ellen Gottfried's) grandmother crocheted  this as bookmaker.

Butterfly: Appliqué - Symbol of the resurrection and eternal life.

Stars: Appliqué - God's promise to Abraham may be shown by using many small stars together with one large one representing the Messiah.

Bible: Embroidery - The Book is open, which indicates the usefulness of the word of God.

Peacock: Embroidery and Beads - Early symbol of the resurrection - When the peacock sheds his feathers, he grows more brilliant ones than he lost.

Fish: Embroidery - Early symbol for a Christian.

Anchor: Embroidery - Infers that our faith in Christ is like a sure anchor, holding us steady in the time of storm.

Daisy: Appliqué - Symbol of the innocence of the Holy Child.

IHS:  From Old Stole - This is an abbreviation of the greek word IHCOYC meaning Jesus.

Chi-Rho and Flame: From Old Parament - An ancient monogram of Christ and the flame is a symbol of Pentecost, where people were filled with the Holy Spirit.

Palm: Beads - Carried by the Jews as a sign of triumphant rejoicing (John 12:13)

Alpha & Omega:  Embroidery - Means that our Lord Jesus is the beginning and the end of all things.

Crocheted Roses: made by Berneda Miller - Symbolize the Christmas Rose and the nativity of our Lord (John 8:12 - 9:5)

Vines: Embroidery - Our Lord declares He is the true vine (John 15:1,4-15)

Crocheted Circles: The circle represents eternity.

Flowers: Embroidery - Look how the wild flowers grow - They do not work or make cloths for themselves. (Matthew 6:28-29)

Buttons: Most made of Mother of Pearl (shells)
