This banner is made on purple felt for the Lenton Season, the color of mourning, expressing sorrow and penitence for sin. The Crown of Thorns, made of light brown felt, symbolizes and humiliation ans suffering imposed upon Jesus during His trial before Pilate.  The nails, make of grey felt, symbolize the depth of His physical suffering.  The letters, INRI, of gold felt, are the forst letters of the Latin superscriptuion at the top of the cross, "Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews." The banner is finished with gold fringe.
