Evangelical Lutheran Worship….
Is the name of the new hymnal for the ELCA!  We are excited about having this new resource in our very own pews and offer you the chance to donate a hymnal(s) for use in our congregation.  They are $17.50 each; forms are on the display table in the upstairs hallway.  You may give a hymnal in honor of someone special to you or in memory of someone who has died.  Please make your checks payable to North Salem and put “hymnal” in the memo line.  If you have questions, see Pastor Julie or Lew Gottfried.  Deadline is October 1st.

What’s Cooking in the Kitchen?
An additional adult Sunday School class!  This class will meet over your ‘wake me up’ beverage of choice (bring it with you!) and discuss topics pertinent to our times and our faith. It’s casual and short…it meets from 9-9:30am, so Sunday School teachers, parents, and others can fit it into their Sunday morning schedules!  Join Pastor Julie in the kitchen, starting September 10th!

MISSION MOMENT
NORTHWESTERN OHIO SYNOD   $14 FOR CHRIST

It’s no secret that money is tight everywhere these days.  This includes funding coming into our synod office.  When budgets must be downsized in the synod office, vital ministries supported by our synod (this means our congregations) suffer.  Places like Trinity Lutheran Seminary and our ELCA camps in Ohio (Lutheran Outdoor Ministries of Ohio) receive less funding from our synod when our synod receives less funding from it’s congregations.

At our synod assembly a budget was presented that was in line with the decline in giving to the synod by the congregations.  It eliminated an Assistant to the Bishop’s position and significantly cut funds to a variety of ministries supported by the synod.  The lay leaders and clergy present at that synod assembly soundly said “NO!”  They defeated that proposed budget and proposed one in it’s place that kept funding levels as they were before.  After some figuring, it was determined that if each person who attends regularly in each congregation gave $14 toward this budget, our missions could receive their full funding.  Individual clergy members, including the Marine Chaplain present from Parris Island, but rostered to our synod, stepped up and gave large contributions to publicly support this vital campaign.

At North Salem we will soon begin a campaign to do the same.  We will be asking each person who attends regularly to give at least $14 toward this end.  Additionally, we will be praying for these ministries and hearing more about them during our fall worship services.

Please prayerfully consider how you can support the work and ministry of our Northwestern Ohio synod.
