Pentecost Banner
Silk Embroidery Dove

This banner was made for the 150th year anniversary in the year 2000.  All the people that were baptized in North Salem and Bethany are named on small doves hanging from a mobile in the church.  We thought it fitting to also have banners suggesting baptism; hence this banner with a dove on it.

This banner is made from an old parament from North Salem.  On it you will find a dove that expresses innocence and purity.  It signifies the Holy Spirit and the presence of God hovering above Jesus at His baptism.  The dove is made of a white lame and outlined in black cording.
The triangle and the three intertwining circles are a symbol of the Trinity - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  It is made of red velveteen outlined with gold sequin braiding.  Encircling this symbol are vines and flowers. vines (John 15:4-15) and flowers (Matthew 6:28-29) are all made of silk embroidery, embellished with beads, buttons, metallic threads, shells, silk flowers, leaves, small birds, and fish.
The two tatted butterflies at the top of the banner were made by Andrea Vanderpool.  The butterfly is the symbol of the resurrection and eternal life.  The banner is finished with a red fringe.
