Women Of North Salem-October

Kits and blankets for LWR have been packed and will be taken to Waldo, then to New York and then around the world , wherever there is the most urgent need.  Once again our church has been most generous in their giving.  We are sending   60 School Kits,  56 Layettes,  41 Health Kits,  28 Sewing Kits and  235          Quilts.   Thanks to all who have taken part in these projects.

Pastor Julie has invited us to her home for our October meeting on Oct. 10th at 7:00 p.m.  Janis Schmidt will have the Bible Study. “A God of Relationship” and  Carolyn Fruth the devotions.

Thanks to all who help hostess the Lutheran Social Service meeting this past Tues. , especially Janis Schmidt, chr.    There was a good attendance.  The speaker was Tim Stofac, LSS Pres. and CEO.

Martha Russell and her family will be decorating the church for the fall season.

Thankoffering service  is being planned for October 12th by the committee, Janis Schmidt , Linda Kroeger-Baum, Gratia Gikling,, Amber Roszman and Pastor.  Part of the service will include special music.  Envelopes will be given out if you do not have a special box for your offering.

SE Conference of the WELCA  Fall Retreat registration of $7 is due this Sun. or by Oct. 3rd.  Please see Marilyn if you are planning on going to Prospect for the  Oct. 14th Retreat.

Family Fun Night - Huge Success.  $1207.50 taken in at auction with $900 more in matching Thrivent Funds.
Thrivent also gave us an additional $90 for youth activities.  Our total for the church for the year from Thrivent was $1300.

Sewings for the month of October are Oct. 3rd and 17th.  We were glad to have Opal join our group last Tues.  More helpers are needed as we still have plenty of material!

Marge Forry has put together an Avon Basket to be given to Lutheran Memorial Camp for the Auction at their Apple Butter Festival.    Thanks Marge.

North Salem Women of ELCA-September

The women wish to thank everyone who has been bringing in items for the Lutheran World Relief Kits.
The kits will be assembled  on August 28 or 29th.  Report of amounts will be in the next Chatter.

The Sept. 26th Lutheran Social Service meeting will be held here at North Salem from 1-3 p.m.  The in-gathering of gifts will be for adult Christmas gifts for shelters in Columbus.  Items needed for the men are heavy winter shirts and sweatshirts, etc. (new is preferred, but lightly used will be accepted).  Items needed for women are jewelry, devotional books, during powder, perfume, nail polish, etc.   Items are to be unwrapped.   Put these items in marked box in hallway.

Wed. Sept 13th is North Salem’s day to work at the Hospital Guild Fair Booth .  This is also the day that we are to bring in our baked goods  (should be marked with ingredients, etc.).   Other items are to be brought to the booth on Mon. Sept. 11th for marking.  Be sure to support the Guild at the Fair.

The Mission Investment Fund(MIF) of the ELCA has a challenge for Women of the ELCA:  Open 1,000 new individual accounts between June 1, 2006 and December 31, 2007 and MIF will award Women of the ELCA $25,000 toward the  Triennial Gathering in Salt Lake City, Utah in 2008.  MIF offers a variety o f fixed and adjustable-rate investments.  Your involvement helps new mission congregations purchase land and build churches; helps established congregations build new educational space or expand their sanctuaries; and assists older congregations with renovation needs.   North Salem has some of their money invested with MIF.   Information  is posted on the bulletin board or contact Marilyn  for more info.

The theme of the Bible Study for Sept - May is  “  Hope in God in Times of Suffering “   For our Sept 5th meeting we will be studying Psalm 22:1-2 - “Making Sense of Suffering”.  Charlene McGuire will be Bible Study Leader.  Charlene and Dorothy will be hostesses and Mary Ellen will have the devotions.  All women are invited to the meetings each month. at 7:00 p.m.  Notice that this meeting is one week early because of the fair.

Thanks for the support of the whole congregation at the Family Fun Night Auction.  Proceeds which are matched by Thrivent  will be used for Youth support to camps,etc. and Mission Work.

The Southeastern Conference Women’s Fall Retreat, “ Gathered in His Name”  will be held Oct. 14th at St. Paul, Prospect.  The cost is $7 (includes lunch and registration).  Contact  Marilyn to register.  Let’s have at least one car load!
