The Wyandot County Vietnam Traveling Wall Foundation
is proud to announce its plans to place a second monument (pictured above) in
Bi-centennial Park in Upper Sandusky. This monument will be dedicated to the
memory of Wyandot County’s veterans of the Korean War. To raise funds for the
acquisition and placement of this new monument the Vietnam Traveling Wall
Foundation is currently planning a 2-day event for this summer to be held on
Saturday July 26th and Sunday July 27th.
Activities will
be held at Thiel’s Wheels in Upper Sandusky. Owner Marc Ingwersen and Marketing
Director Breann Fredritz are helping with the planning.
The activities will kick-off at 9:00 AM on Saturday July 26th with
Opening Ceremonies and the Posting of the Colors.
Participants and activities throughout the 2-day event include the Ohio Motor
Pool, all branches of the military, various concessions, and raffles for both a
Henry 22 Cal. Lever Action Golden Boy Rifle and an Olympus Digital Camera.
(Tickets for these items are on sale now.) Also the Chained Eagles will be
bringing in their Ohio Wall and will hold a Tribute to MIA’s at 3:00 PM on both
days of the event. The Iraq Freedom Wall will also be on location.
Sunday, July 27, a motorcycle ride, with registration beginning at 9:00 AM, will
leave Thiel’s at 10:30 AM and return by 2:30 PM prior to the Chained Eagles
program and the closing program.
Throughout the event the National Guard, Air Force, Army, Marines, Navy and
Coast Guard will be bringing in various displays that you won’t want to miss.
The Wyandot County Vietnam Traveling Wall
Foundation is a recognized public charity, approved by the State of Ohio. As
such the Foundation under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code is
qualified to receive tax deductible bequests, devices, transfers and/or gifts
under section 2055, 2106 or 2522 of the Code. The Foundation utilizes such
bequests, devices, transfers and/or gifts to satisfy the financial needs of
veterans, who either do not have funds available and/or may not be serviced by
other resources or organizations.
The Korean War dates from June 25, 1950 through
July 27, 1953. These are considered to be the war’s actual "hot" dates, which
will be placed on the wall. The board of the Vietnam Traveling Wall Foundation
is currently identifying Veterans, who served from Wyandot County so their names
can be placed on the monument just as the Wyandot County Vietnam Veterans’ names
were place on the Vietnam Monument in 2006. All names submitted will be verified
for authenticity, as will the dates of service. Anyone, having served through
the Korean War or having a family member who served, is asked to complete the
form, which can be printed form the link below, and forward it to Tom Eyestone,
116 E. Findlay St., Carey, OH 43316. Also any Wyandot County Vietnam War and/or
Vietnam Era veteran, whose name is not already included on the Wyandot County
Vietnam Memorial Monument, should complete the form below and forward it as
