Memorial Dedication at Bicentennial Park In Upper Sandusky
Saturday, May 13, 2006

Have you been wondering what’s happening with the Wyandot County Vietnam Memorial that seemed to be in the news a lot, last year?  After all the flyers, news articles, radio and television spots, after all the motorcycles left and everything was packed up and moved on, things slowed down a bit!  Now you’re thinking “So how are we going to top what happened last year”

The County’s Vietnam War Memorial is scheduled to be dedicated later this spring. The stone has been cut and is now being etched with all the names provided to the Wyandot County Veteran’s Service Office. The Vietnam Traveling Wall committee is making every effort to make the monument appear as it was in all previously printed media plenty of work remains to be completed.

The monument will be placed at Bicentennial Park on North Sandusky Avenue (State Route 53 North) in Upper Sandusky. The foundation has been poured, but a new wider sidewalk will lead you to the monument from the street. Additional flag poles are in place, electrical work and landscaping, needs to be finished prior to dedication of the memorial.

If you or your organization has not had to opportunity to be a part of this memorial to the men and women that served in and during The Vietnam Conflict, and still would like  to donate, please do so as there is still a need for funding to make this monument complete in every detail to show the pride Wyandot County has for its veterans.

Donations meeting sponsorship criteria and delivered to The Vietnam Traveling Wall Inc, 129 South Sandusky Avenue, Upper Sandusky, Ohio, 43351, prior to February 28, 2006, will be on the Sponsor Marker. Any qualifying donations received after this date, will be added at a later time. All donations is tax deductible, as The Vietnam Traveling Wall Inc has met all established requirements.

May 13, 2006 is the date to mark on your calendar. The event will start out with a Reunion Ride and while it is not planned to be nearly as big as last year’s escort ride, all motorcycle enthusiasts are invited to attend the ride. A Fun Run will begin at  Thiel’s Wheels, with the first group out about 9:00 A.M. The planned route will be available within the next few weeks.

The Memorial Dedication will begin at Bicentennial Park at 3:00 P.M., on May 13, 2006. The ceremony should last 60 to 90 minutes. At the conclusion of ceremonies, food and entertainment are planned for the evening at Thiel’s Wheels, off US 23 and State Route 53 North in Upper Sandusky
