About This Site
When I started to learn to use Linux I collected a lot of notes on how to do different things, some hand written, some printed, and some in files in the computer. As this collection grew larger it became more difficult to find the information I needed, I had to get this mess organized. That's when I got the idea to put it all in a web site in the hope that it could also be useful to others.
This web site is intended to offer help to newcomers to Linux. I will try to provide detailed instructions on how to accomplish many common tasks, and general tips to make Linux easier to use. If you are accustomed to MS Windows then Linux can seem a little confusing, but hang in there and give it a fair shot, with a little patience and some help from this site you can get everything setup and running smoothly.
The graphic interfaces, Gnome or KDE, make many jobs easy, especially if you are accustomed to the Microsoft Windows GUI. There are however times when you will need to use the power and versatility of the command line, this is the area I will mainly focus on. If you are accustomed to using the DOS command prompt then this will not seem very different, if you've only used Windows then a blank command line can be a little scary, but don't worry it's not that tough once you get the hang of it.
The information in this site is stuff I have learned along the way wile learning to use Linux, these are mostly things I have done and they worked for me. But because there is allot of different computer hardware out there and there are several Linux distro's not everyone will get the same results. I will be happy to answer questions and give help when I can, but I am not a computer technician or tech support person so I can't solve all your problems and there are no guarantees on any info found within this website. Most of the time if you do some searching and read the documentation you can find answers to your questions and problems.
