Melville Island Prison

- War of 1812 -


Melville Island Prison, was constructed in 1808 and destroyed in 1935. American Prisoners of War were incarcerated by the British Empire here during the War of 1812.
Deadman's Island, where 195 American prisoners are buried in unmarked graves, is nearby.
