I have never worked out in a gym before.  How do I get started?
Our instructors will show you how to use the equipment and set you up with a basic routine.  We are always here to answer any questions you may have and provide more advanced routines as you progress.  We will help you every step of the way!

How often should I work out?
You can do aerobics every day, in fact, to lose weight you should work out 30 minutes 5 days a week.  For weight training, you body needs 48 hours rest between workouts, so only workout 3 days per week with weights or machines.  If you want to workout more often, only train one part of your body per day.  For example, you might train legs, back and abdominals on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and train your upper body on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Will I bulk up like the body builders that I see on TV?
Not unless you are genetically destined to do so and are willing to spend hours per day in the gym.  The body builders that you have seen have dedicated their lives to muscular development.  Weight training for a normal individual will tone up their muscles, shape your body and give you a leaner, trimmer appearance.

What’s with Nutritional Supplements?
When you are weight training, your body needs an adequate supply of nutrients to build new muscle fibers.  Our nutritional supplements are designed to provide the protein for muscle development and contain the vitamins that may be lacking in your normal diet.

Will I lose weight by strength training?
With proper exercise and diet you will lose body fat and increase lean muscle.  You may not see a decrease in weight, but you will look better and feel better as you develop a trimmer body.  Isn’t that what you really want?  The more lean muscle that you have, the easier it is to maintain a desirable body weight as muscle burns calories all day long.  It has been proven that adding 10 pounds of lean muscle can burn almost 1000 calories per day in an active person.

How do I stay with en exercise program, I always seem to lose interest after a few weeks?
Commit yourself to sticking with it this time.  Purchasing a membership is often enough for some persons – they don’t want to waste their money.  Other ways to stay motivated include working out with a friend or spouse, varying the exercise routine to avoid becoming stale and utilizing a personal trainer to keep motivated.  Set aside the same time every day to workout and try not to let things get in the way.

How do I know if I have worked out hard enough?
You should feel better 2 hours after your workout than you did before your workout.  You should also feel slight muscle tightness or perhaps very slight soreness the next day.  It is really a good feeling and lets you know that you accomplished something.  If you are really sore and fatigued after your workout, you worked out too hard.  Learn to listen to your body.  By the way, working out is a great stress relief!

When is the best time of day to workout?
Many studies have been performed to determine this.  Some experts recommend working out first thing in the morning before eating in order to burn fat calories more efficiently.  However, many of us are not morning persons and just can’t get motivated early in the morning.  The most important thing is just to workout, period.  So, the best time of day to workout is whenever you can fit it into your schedule and is most convenient for you.

I have heard that weight training will make you stiff and interfere with my sports activities.
Proper weight training utilizing full range of motion, proper form and stretching before, during and after your workout will actually increase your flexibility.  Practically all of the top pro athletes in all sports today incorporate weight training into their schedules.  Proper training will improve your sports performance and greatly decrease the chance of injury.

What is the best benefit of weight training?
Weight training places your body under stresses that it is not accustomed to.  Your body will become stronger to cope with these stresses.  The net result is that you will develop a stronger body which can handle the daily stresses of life more easily.  You will be able to get through your day with less effort and have more energy to do the things that you like to do.   Looking better and feeling better are what its all about.
